Charboneau And Son. On August
13, 1980, I was assigned by the Associated Press to cover the Cleveland
Indians/Texas Rangers baseball game at the old stadium. Before the game,
I noticed Indians' rookie star, Joe Charboneau, talking to some people in
the stands near the dugout. As I focused my telephoto lens to see who he
was talking to, Joe's wife delivered his son, Tyson, to him for a "pregame
pep talk." Instead of the usual game action photo that newspapers use
to illustrate the game story, the Plain Dealer used this photo rather large
on page one of the Sports section on the following day.It was also used
by several newspapers throughout Ohio.
